Reports hitting the airwaves indicates the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are about to declare President Nana Akuffo as the flagbearer for the upcoming 2020 general elections. The party will make an acclamation shortly to this effect. Mr John Boadu (General Secretary of the party) after a National Council meeting on Wednesday, the 03rd of June, 2020 addressed the media on the outcome of the meeting.
According to Mr Boadu, the National Vetting Committee of the ruling party had sent in a report to the National Council acknowledging that only President Nana Akuffo Addo had filed his nomination for the flagbearer position when the party closed its submissions. He further emphasized that the party has scheduled the 20th of June, 2020 to hold its Parliamentary primaries across the 168 constituencies where the party has sitting members.
As it stands, the party’s National Council has accepted reports of the National Vetting Committee. It will move to acclaim the sole candidate who filed his nomination before the closure date of the nominations, Nana Akuffo Addo, as the NPP’s flag bearer for the upcoming general elections. Mr Boadu indicated that the party would soon announce a date at which the flag bearer and his running mate will be acclaimed.
Similarly, guidelines for the conduct of the upcoming primaries will also be announced to the general public shortly. Personalities present at the meeting included President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Chairman of the NPP, Mr Freddie Blay, General Secretary of the party, Mr John Boadu, etc.
