Rwanda cancel league, crown APR FC champions

The Football Federation (FERWAFA) have announced the cancellation of all their leagues and announced the champions for the men’s first division.

Due to pandemic most leagues around the globe have suspended their football activities since mid-March.

And as the situation continues to worsen in Africa, with 103,875 confirmed cases as of Saturday May 23rd, some leagues in continent have decided to prematurely end all football activities.

These leagues include the Uganda Premier League, the Congolese Ligue 1 and Cameroon’s MTN Elite One to name a few.

Rwanda have now joined this list as they decided to suspended the men’s Premier League, crowning APR FC as champions. Meanwhile, HEROES FC and GICUMBI FC will be relegated to the second division.

As for the the second division, only the leading four clubs in Pool A and in Pool B will participate in a play-offs competition to determine the champions and the promoted clubs.

Meanwhile, the women’s first and second divisions will be resumed once the ‘Government of Rwanda eases lock-down on sporting activities’.
